MANDATE/OBJECTIVES
Ø Determination of standards of knowledge and skills to be
attained by persons seeking to become Public Analysts and review
such standards from time to time, as circumstances demand.
Ø Establish laboratories for the training of incoming Public
Analysts and registered Public Analysts.
Ø Train, register and issue practice licence to Public
Analysts.
Ø Regulate the practice of Public Analysts by issuing out
regulation periodically, review such regulations, conduct
inspection of premises and carry out other provisions to ensure
compliance to standards of practice.
Creation
of fora where Public Analysts meet to discuss matters affecting
the profession.
Gathering and Co-ordination of information relevant to the
profession and dissemination of it amongst Public Analysts.
Standardization of analytical methods and development of
new ones.
Co-operation with relevant organisations whose
objectives border on:
(a) Standardization of customer products.
(b) Control of regulated products such as Food,
Drugs, Cosmetics,
Medical Devices, Water, Chemicals, etc.
(c) Protection of the environment from hazardous substances.
(d) Participation in National Planning and Development.
Ø Apply sanctions for professional misconduct by members of
the Institute.
Ø Provide library for advancement of knowledge of members.
Ø The Institute shall have perpetual succession and a common
seal. The Institute may sue and be sued in its corporate name
and may hold, acquire and dispose of any property movable or
immovable.
Ø The Governing Council shall make rules and regulations for
the management of the profession. The Council shall charge
subscription, licence fees, examination fees etc.
Ø Council shall establish and maintain fund and invest fund,
borrow money for the management of the Institute.
Ø The Council shall cause the account to be audited and shall
submit report of the activities of the Institute annually to the
Hon. Minister of Health.
